Research: DPS 2

 

This DPS is from a classic rock , country edition.

This DPS beings on page 26 and is a double page spread although it only has text one page. The DPs is approx 2000 words and the beginning article opening is about 500 words, this appeals to a wide range of people due to the fact there is not much text bout the young artist. The layout of the article is set out in a interview style this is because of the questions asked and the way the artist has replied.

 

The opening compresses about a 1\6^th of the page and is a larger text to draw attent

ion to the beginning. There are no columns which is different as the rest of the DPS is laid out in 4 columns with a colourful breaker in the centre of 2 columns. The text is aligned to the right so the text reads easily and simply and allows space for this breaker.

The DPS has one large A4 image of a young woman Lindi Orgetga a Canadian singer. This fills the right hand side of the page and the colours used are bright and vibrate this contrasts with the bright colours used in the DPS to draw peoples eyes to the text. The pose of the artist is very simple and elegant and although she is looking away (this breaks conventions) she is showing the audience her young innocence and beauty.

 

The article is intended to a TA who recognise the artist, the headline is dark and simple which draws peoples eyes away from the purple ‘grilled’ the headline is bold as it is of the artists name.

The background of the image is slightly in focus although all attention is focused on the artists flower crown and bright bold red lipstick. The location in which the image has been taken suggests natural light and beauty this contrasts from the outfit as the artist is wearing a bold black outfit where as the silver belt draws some colour and sophistication to the play suit. The artist is wearing a fair amount of makeup although it isn’t major it is eye-catching and the dark bold colours make the artists eyes and lips stand out more through the veil.

The colour of the flower crown  matches or is a close match to the ‘grilled’ and the colourful breakout this ties the two items together nicely and shows that she is linked to her article.

From this DPS I may use the interview style and the ways the colours match the outfit.

Research: contents 5

 I have chosen to write about this Kerrang magazine contents page as I like how it is laid out and that it relates to my genre.

For this contents page it is a 1 page spread with a lot of detail and information crammed into it. This contents page has all of the articles in the right 1/3rd of the page this is a long narrow strip with very small writing but the house style incorporated.

I think this would be very difficult to read and is not suitable. I do like however the large image which takes up a 3/3rds of the pages this also includes text about the competition and lots of details of how to get involved.

I also like how in the bottom corner is a section on ask the writer. This is interesting as you rarely see this on a contents page but I may use this in my own magazine.

Although I do not like how the contents page is so cluttered this is making me want to create a 2 page spread so I will have enough room to fit all the information I need to make my magazine busy but yet readable.

Research: Front cover 7

I am analysing this magazine as it relates to my genre. I have chosen this magazine as it is also a very gender neutral and simple magazine. I am really starting to like these features as they are attracting more of  an audience.

I also like the colour scheme of this magazine this is a white and brown. This is nice as it is a very rustic and natural scheme of colours.  I love how the model is main in the front cover and how when looking at the front cover at first glance the reader notices the models red eyes. This links in with the read subheadings above the different sections of the writing.

The red eyes of the model clearly plays a large part in the front cover and of the colour scheme. I like this idea and may use it in my magazine.

Also this magazine includes a CD I like this idea although I may not use it in my own magazine as the idea of a cd is not as up to date as I would like. This is because most people or teenages listen to music on their phones instead of on a cd.

Also the models outfit ties in as well with the face paint/ fake blood on her face. I like this idea s although it's a simple idea it is very intriguing to the reader and makes them enticed into what the magazine/ article is about. The paint on her cheeks could be a sign for tribes and traditions as Indians were seen as having painted faces. The paint on the models hands could also symbolise fighting and warriors the model in this image looks like she has been on a fight and has had a victory and has smothered the blood of the victim all over her face.

I may use the colour scheme from this article but also the way the colours all tie in together.

Research: DPS 1

This DPS is from a acoustic magazine from February 2014.

This DPS begins on page 16 and the full article is around 300 words . The layout and style of this DPs appeals to older more articulated readers as it is a double page DPS with lots of depth and detail.

David Morley suggests that media texts appeal to different social groups and are influenced by this idology and social change. This is is reflected in this edition as the DPS it’s self is more rustic and this appeals to a wider audience.

The opening compresses one and a half columns underneath the main image there is only a small space of about 8mm between the columns and the text is aligned to the right so it runs clearly below the image.

The dps has one large image which takes up ¾ of a a4 page the image displayed is of Marcus Bonfanti and he is an acoustic guitarist. The rustic colours are cool and sedate, his posture is relaxed and focused away from the camera this is breaking conventions although he is clearly showing how enthusiastic he is about his music as the image is of him playing the guitar. The TA recognised him or are already familiar with him and his music. The colour of his clothes are not clear due to the filter which has been used to develop the image into a vintage style. Although i suspect he is wearing earthy colours to make the filter on the image look more natural, the colour of his outfits blend nicely with the colours used for the DPS and the title. Synergy is created and the vintage style created through these colour choices. The background image is blurred and this draws attention to the artist and his pose. The location of the studio suggests a working environment, there seems to be a natural light coming from the foreground, this has been used to draw attention to the artists face. These signs signify that Marcus is promoting his material and though his posture is relaxed, he has been framed and directed to develop his star image. Perkins suggests that "Stereotypes are not simple", this is a stereotypical outfit associated with acoustic    or indie artist as he has on the very simple chilled out jumper and long feminine hair. Although this look is a very subdued natural look it is also unconventional as he is not looking into camera. His facial expression is content and it encourages the TA to consider the joy that can be gained from music.He leans to the right of frame and appears to enjoy his music, his long hair and costume develop his image. This also links to the stand first "Long hair" and he expresses in the pull quote how much more he wants to promote blues and guitar playing. The colour of his top is lightened and used in the title, and the puff this creates synergy. The font is dark, which contrasts with the pale colours used elsewhere in the article, the font is sans serif.

From this article I may use the way the image is vintage and looks rustic and old.

Research: Front cover 6

I have chosen to analyse this front cover as it simple and creative. I like how it is focused on the artist and how the masthead is behind the artist. Although this is breaking conventions. I also like how the name of the band is in front of them, this draws the reader's eyes to the name and the instruments in the front cover.

Also I like the masthead as it is a gender neutral colour and makes me think of guitar strings. The magazine uses gold as a banner which is very eye catching and draws the reader to that certain piece of text.

Gold, black & white seem to be the colour scheme of this magazine this is a very gender neutral and interesting combination. I enjoy how the front cover is very natural and simple.

From this magazine I may use the idea of a simple front cover, of a gender neutral colour scheme and bold interesting writing to attract people to buy my magazine.

Research: Contents 4

I am analysing this contents page as it is a 2 page spread. It uses many different items such as 3/3rds of the page being filled with images and most of the second page is covered in pictures to. I like this as it makes the contents page interesting and covers most of the white on the page. I like this because I find too much white on the contents page is boring and makes me not want to read it.

Also this contents page uses many images to advertise different articles, this is useful if you only know this face/name of the artist.  The contents page also features many different acoustic guitars, I like this as it gives the reader information in which guitar is best to buy and what accessories are needed.
